The Sweetheart Dress is a vintage 1950s style dress with a full gathered skirt, fitted princess-seamed bodice, flattering sweetheart neckline, and a wide gathered halter strap. It's designed for woven fabrics with little or no stretch, and it works beautifully with voiles, quilting cottons, Ankara cottons, poplins, sateens, linens and linen blends, and other reasonably stable fabrics.

The Sweetheart dress includes sizes 0-20 and has a slightly larger bust-to-waist ratio than many commercial patterns, especially in the larger sizes. Our testers reported making only minimal adjustments to fit (woohoo!) but if you do find yourself in a fitting quandary, we've got a whole page of troubleshooting tips in the instructions to help you out.

Speaking of testers, many thanks to the amazing ladies who took the time to sew, write up feedback, and take photos for y'all to see what the dress looks like. You can see more of their dresses in the full tester gallery. Julia, Anne, Vicki, Sophie, Lili, Christina, Zena, Melisha, Quinn, Cortney, Bekah, and Gina, it's been amazing working with you. I can't thank you enough for all of your help!

Kindly follow these awesome ladies on Instagram to see more of their amazing work.

What makes this pattern extra special?

- Finishing: the bodice is fully lined, all raw edges are encapsulated, the zipper is concealed, and there's zero hand sewing. Your dress will look as nice on the inside as it does on the outside.

- Zippers: I hate inserting zippers and I'm always looking for less-painful methods. The zipper insertion method included here isn't one I see very often, but it looks awesome and is really hard to mess up (trust me - I know.)

- Fit: Vertical princess seams make it easy to get a really precise fit, since all of the shaping is directly over the bust and midriff. We've included a full page of fitting tips, and we've got more if you need - just ask!

- Style: While the styling of this dress is very 1950s, the bodice is an incredibly versatile piece that works well with lots of different skirts and straps. If you dig hacking patterns, this is a great piece to have in your arsenal.

And finally, thank you to Noelle Garcia and also to all the folks at Stitch Texas. Without you, none of this would have happened.
